By the time you read this, I hopefully will have survived my third of six final exams, meaning that my first quarter here at ICO is almost over and I get to go home in less than two weeks (exciting!).

During these last two months I managed to survive 16 lecture exams, three lab quizzes, three lab practicals, and soon-to-be six finals. But academics aside, I still managed to have a quasi-normal life by going out for dinner on Saturdays, and having brunch and exploring with friends on Sundays. A few of us also saw the Silversun Pickups at the Aragon Ballroom in Uptown last month, and a couple weeks ago I got my groove on at Boo Bash.

So far, first year is not too shabby, but you definitely have to take it seriously. Before coming to optometry school, I heard a lot of horror stories about how difficult it would be. Although the amount of material that we managed to cover in just two months was intimidating at first, it was definitely doable, and dare I say, enjoyable? You’ll learn a lot, not only about anatomy or about Dr. T‘s obsession with Harry Potter and “The Vampire Diaries” (because she’ll make it very obvious), but you’ll learn a lot about yourself as well. Coming to ICO, I didn’t know how I would ever manage two or three exams a week, but I did. And looking back, it wasn’t that bad.

If you’re reading this and you’re in the Waterloo area, I want to let you know that I’ll be visiting the Pre-Optometry Club at the University of Waterloo on Monday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. EST for an ICO information session. I’ll be doing a presentation and a Q&A session. So, I invite you to attend, have a listen, and ask questions.

I hope to see you there!
