After a long day at school, one of the last things I want to do is worry about how I’m going to get back to my apartment off campus. With all of the different ways of public transportation in the city, I didn’t think a car was absolutely necessary. However, in a big city like Chicago, it sometimes gets a little eerie when the sun goes down. You have to pay more attention to your surroundings and make sure you know where you are going with a purpose. Depending on how late into the night you get while at school, the buses and trains start to not come as often. Instead of having to wait at the bus stop for the next available bus, security at ICO offers a shuttle bus!
The shuttle bus is used for students to get to where they want to go in an efficient manner without having to worry about their safety. They start driving it when it gets dark outside. Since it gets dark so early nowadays, they’ll have more time to give some rides. It is a white mini van that the security officers themselves drive and drop you off right at your apartment. I’ve taken advantage of this service quite a bit because it’s very easy to use. You just have to go to the security office and sign in with your name and tell them that you want a ride. Then, once you get downstairs to the doors, you swipe your ID to account for the ride. The more rides they do, the longer the shuttle bus will stay around!
To make it even better, the security officers usually strike up a conversation with you, as well. They’re all very friendly and care about what’s going on in your life. They know what kind of struggles we can go through being so busy with school, so it’s nice to have a fun conversation to end your busy day. They really do care about our safety and they’re doing everything they can to keep us as safe as possible.
…They also have coffee and tea in their office, so make sure to take advantage of that, as well!
